Tree Pruning
Regular pruning keeps trees healthy, looking their best, and growing in the right direction. At Wyre Tree Services, we offer shaping and maintenance pruning for all types of trees, from ornamental garden trees to larger mature specimens. Proper pruning at the right time of year encourages strong growth and helps prevent problems further down the line.
Our experienced, NPTC qualified team will advise on the most suitable approach for each tree, taking into account its species, age, and overall condition. Whether you need a light trim to tidy up a garden tree or more significant crown work on a mature specimen, we'll carry out the work carefully and efficiently, leaving your garden neat, tidy, and spotless once the job is complete.
Crown Thinning
Crown thinning involves the careful removal of selected branches throughout the canopy to reduce the overall density of a tree without altering its natural shape. Crown thinning allows more light to pass through the tree and improves air circulation within the canopy.
Our experienced, NPTC qualified team carefully selects which branches to remove, maintaining the tree's natural form while reducing weight and wind resistance within the crown. This also helps to lower the risk of storm damage while keeping the tree healthy and well balanced.
All crown thinning work is carried out in line with current British Standards (BS 3998) and industry best practice, ensuring the long-term health and structure of your trees are always protected.
Crown Reduction
A crown reduction involves carefully reducing the overall height and spread of a tree while maintaining its natural shape and structure. A crown reduction is carried out to manage the size of a tree, reduce the weight of heavy limbs, and prevent branches from encroaching on buildings, roads, or nearby structures.
Our experienced, NPTC qualified team will assess the tree and carefully reduce the crown by selectively pruning branches back to suitable growth points. This ensures the tree remains healthy and balanced while reducing stress on the structure of the tree.
All crown reduction work is carried out in accordance with current British Standards (BS 3998) and industry best practice, helping to maintain the long-term health, safety, and appearance of your trees.
Crown Lifting
Crown lifting involves the removal of the lower branches of a tree to increase the clearance between the ground and the canopy. This is often carried out to improve access for pedestrians, vehicles and machinery, driveways, pathways, or to allow more light into gardens and surrounding areas. We carry out crown lifting carefully to ensure the tree remains balanced, healthy, and visually natural.
Our experienced, NPTC qualified team will assess the tree and selectively remove lower branches while maintaining the overall structure and appearance of the crown.
Crown lifting is particularly useful for trees growing near roads, footpaths, gardens, or buildings where additional space and visibility are required. All work is completed safely, efficiently, and with care for the surrounding area.
Pollarding
Pollarding is a specialist pruning technique used to control the size and shape of certain trees by removing branches back to a set point on the trunk or main stems. This method is often used for trees in urban areas, along streets, or in gardens where it is important to manage height and spread. We carry out pollarding carefully to maintain the health of the tree while keeping it at a manageable size.
Our experienced, NPTC qualified team will assess whether pollarding is suitable for your tree. It is a technique that works best on certain species of trees and started at the correct stage of a tree's life to be continued on a regular cycle. When carried out correctly, pollarding can help maintain a tree's structure, encourage controlled regrowth, and keep trees safe and appropriate for their surroundings.
Tree Surgery FAQs
When should trees be pruned?
Many deciduous trees are pruned in winter while dormant. Cherry and plum are exceptions: pruning in spring or summer helps reduce the risk of silver leaf disease. Birch and Japanese maple are best pruned in autumn or early winter to avoid heavy sap bleeding. The purpose matters too. Damaged or diseased branches may need attention when noticed, rather than waiting for routine shaping.
How much does tree surgery cost?
The size and condition of the tree, the amount of work needed and access to the site all affect the cost. Trees close to buildings or other obstacles may need a different approach. Get in touch for a free quote for the work involved.
